Privacy Policy

Last updated 30 October 2026

1. About this policy

In this Privacy Policy, "we", "us" and "our" means Savill Hicks Corp Pty Ltd ABN 96 009 392 125, AFS Licence No. 240867, trading as SHC Insurance Brokers.

We respect the privacy of your personal information. This policy explains how we collect, hold, use and disclose your personal information, and how you can access it, correct it or make a complaint. We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

This policy applies to our clients and prospective clients, people who visit our websites, and others we deal with in providing insurance broking services.

2. What personal information we collect

Personal information is information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable. The information we collect depends on the services you ask us to provide. It generally includes:

  • your name, position, business name and contact details (phone, email, postal and business address)
  • information about your business, such as its operations, turnover, licences and the projects you undertake
  • information about the property, development or building project to be insured, including its location, stage and documentation
  • details of your current and previous insurances, claims history and any losses
  • information about directors, officers, employees, owners and other parties connected to your business or project
  • information needed to arrange premium payment or premium funding
  • information about your dealings with us, including enquiries, quotes, policies and claims
  • information collected when you use our websites (see section 12)

3. Sensitive information

Sensitive information is a special category of personal information. It includes information about health, criminal record, racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, sexual orientation and membership of professional or trade associations.

Insurers sometimes need sensitive information to assess a risk or a claim, for example a person's criminal history or health information. We will only collect sensitive information with your consent, unless the law permits otherwise.

4. Dealing with us anonymously

You can make a general enquiry about our services without identifying yourself, or by using a pseudonym. However, we cannot arrange insurance or manage a claim without your personal information, because insurers need it to assess the risk.

5. How we collect your information

We collect personal information directly from you wherever we can. This includes when you contact us by phone or email, meet with us, complete a proposal or claim form, or submit an enquiry through our website.

Sometimes we collect it from other people, where this is necessary to provide our services. These include:

  • insurers, underwriting agencies and other insurance intermediaries
  • premium funders, loss adjusters and claims assessors
  • your employer, business partners, or the developer, builder or owners corporation connected to an insured project
  • people you have authorised to act for you, such as your accountant, lawyer or project manager
  • referral partners
  • publicly available sources, such as company and licence registers

If we collect your information from someone else, we will take reasonable steps to make sure you are aware of it.

6. Why we collect, hold, use and disclose it

We collect your personal information to provide our insurance broking services and for related purposes. These include:

  • advising you on your insurance needs and arranging insurance
  • obtaining quotes and placing, renewing, varying and administering your policies
  • assisting you with claims
  • arranging premium funding
  • managing our relationship with you, including invoicing and client surveys
  • sending you information about our products and services, where you have not opted out (see section 11)
  • improving our services and websites
  • meeting our legal and regulatory obligations, including as an AFS licensee
  • any other purpose we tell you about when we collect your information

If you do not give us the information we need, we may not be able to arrange insurance for you, or an insurer may decline cover or a claim.

7. Automated decision-making

We do not use computer programs to make decisions about you that could significantly affect your rights or interests. Decisions about your insurance are made by our brokers and by insurers.

8. Who we disclose your information to

We do not sell, trade or rent your personal information to others.

In providing our services, we may disclose your information to insurers, underwriting agencies (including Resilience Insurance), reinsurers, premium funders, loss adjusters, claims assessors, other insurance intermediaries, referral partners, insurance reference bureaus, and the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) if you make a complaint.

We may need to provide your information to contractors who supply services to us, e.g. IT, cloud and data storage providers, CRM and marketing platforms, mailing services and professional advisers. We may also provide it to other companies in the event of a corporate sale, merger, re-organisation, dissolution or similar event. However, we will take reasonable measures to ensure that they protect your information as required under the Privacy Act.

We may provide your information to others if we are required or authorised to do so by law, you consent to the disclosure, or in other circumstances permitted by the Privacy Act (for example, to lessen or prevent a serious threat to someone's life, health or safety). This includes disclosure to courts, regulators such as ASIC, and government agencies.

We may use and share de-identified, aggregated information that does not identify you.

9. When we disclose your information overseas

If you ask us to seek insurance terms and we recommend an overseas insurer, we may be required to disclose the information to the insurer located outside Australia. For example, if we recommend a policy provided by Lloyd's of London, your information may be given to the Lloyd's broker and underwriters at Lloyd's of London to make a decision about whether to insure you. The countries in which these recipients are likely to be located include the United Kingdom and France but may include other locations.

We will tell you at time of advising on your insurance if they are overseas and in which country the insurer is located. If the insurer is not regulated by laws which protect your information in a way that is similar to the Privacy Act, we will require them to handle your information in compliance with Australian law before we give them your information. We will also seek your consent before disclosing your information to that insurer.

Australian and overseas insurers acquire reinsurance from reinsurance companies that are located throughout the world, so in some cases your information may be disclosed to them for assessment of risks and in order to provide reinsurance to your insurer. We do not make this disclosure, this is made by the insurer (if necessary) for the placement for their reinsurance program. Insurers that are subject to Australian privacy law must make any such disclosure in accordance with that law. Read your insurer's Privacy Policy for more information.

We also use service providers that may store or process your information overseas, such as cloud hosting, CRM and IT support providers. These providers are likely to be located in Australia, USA and Europe. We take reasonable steps, including through our contracts, to ensure they handle your information in line with the Privacy Act.

10. Providing us with other people's information

To arrange insurance, you may need to give us personal information about other people, such as your directors, employees, business partners or others connected to an insured project. Before you do, please tell them that you are giving their information to us, and make them aware of this Privacy Policy and how they can contact us.

11. Direct marketing

We also use your information to send you requested product information and promotional material and to enable us to manage your ongoing requirements, i.e. renewals, and our relationship with you, e.g. invoicing, client surveys etc.

We may send you information about our products, services and events by email, post, phone or SMS. We may also show you relevant advertising on other platforms, such as LinkedIn and Meta (see section 12).

You can opt out of receiving promotional material at any time by using the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting us. You can also ask us where we obtained your information. Opting out of marketing will not stop us sending you messages about your policies, renewals or claims.

14. How we hold and protect your information

We take reasonable steps to maintain the reliability, accuracy, completeness and currency of the personal information we hold and to protect its privacy and security. We keep personal information only for as long as is reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected or to comply with any applicable legal or ethical reporting or document retention requirements. When we no longer need it, we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.

We hold the information we collect from you electronically in secure systems and with trusted cloud service providers. Any paper records are destroyed securely.

We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These steps include technical and organisational measures such as secure IT systems, firewalls, access controls and staff confidentiality obligations.

No method of storing or transmitting information is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee the security of your information. Please help protect it by keeping your passwords and login details safe, and tell us as soon as possible if you think your information has been compromised.

If a data breach is likely to result in serious harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

15. How you can access or correct your information

Upon receipt of your request and enough information to allow us to identify the information, we will disclose to you the personal information we hold about you. We will also correct, amend or delete any personal information that we agree is inaccurate, irrelevant, out of date or incomplete. We will respond to your request within a reasonable period, usually within 30 days. Please also let us know if your details change.

To access or correct your personal information, please contact our Compliance Officer (see section 19). We may ask you to verify your identity before we act on your request.

We do not charge for receiving a request for access to personal information or for complying with a correction request. Where the information requested is not a straightforward issue and will involve a considerable amount of time, we may charge a reasonable fee for providing access. We will tell you about any fee before proceeding, and it will not be excessive.

In some limited cases, we may need to refuse access to your information, or refuse a request for correction. If this happens, we will tell you in writing as soon as possible, including our reasons and how you can complain. If we refuse to correct your information, you can ask us to attach a statement to it noting that you believe it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading.

By asking us to assist with your insurance needs, you consent to the collection and use of the information you have provided to us for the purposes described above. Where we need to collect sensitive information, we will ask for your express consent.

You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us. If you do, we may not be able to continue to arrange or manage your insurance, and we may still need to keep some information to meet our legal obligations.

17. What happens if you want to complain?

If you have concerns about whether we have complied with the Privacy Act or this Privacy Policy when collecting or handling your personal information, please contact our Compliance Officer (see section 19).

Your complaint will be considered by us through our internal complaints resolution process. We will acknowledge your complaint within one business day (or as soon as practicable), and we will respond with a decision within 30 calendar days. If we need more time in limited circumstances, we will tell you before the 30 days end, explain why, and let you know of your right to complain to AFCA.

If you are not satisfied with our response, or we have not responded within 30 days, you can contact the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA), a free and independent external dispute resolution scheme:
